Our Ranking Methodology
The Four FactorsWe rank plumbers using a weighted combination of several factors. No single metric determines a ranking. A perfect Google rating across 15 reviews does not beat a 4.8 rating across 800 reviews, because volume validates consistency. A multi-trade contractor with a higher review count does not automatically beat a specialized plumber, because depth of expertise matters when you are hiring for a specific trade. Here is how we score every company.
Main Scoring Factors- Review quality paired with volume. This is the primary factor. We weight rating averages against total review count, prioritizing companies that maintain 4.8 or higher across hundreds or thousands of reviews over companies with perfect scores on smaller samples.
- Specialization and trade depth.Plumbing-focused businesses are favored over multi-trade home services operators when ratings are comparable. A company that does plumbing exclusively typically delivers more expertise on complex jobs like repipes, sewer lines, and gas work.
- Availability and responsiveness.24/7 emergency coverage and same-day appointment availability act as tiebreakers when other factors are equal. Plumbing emergencies do not respect business hours.
- Local presence and tenure.Companies headquartered in the target city and serving it as their primary market rank ahead of regional operators treating the city as a secondary service area. Years in business and BBB accreditation also factor in.
- Verified credentials.State licensing, BBB ratings, third-party certifications (HomeAdvisor Top-Rated, TrustDALE-certified, manufacturer-authorized installer status), and public community involvement add credibility weight.
